The Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF) has confirmed that livestock will be present at the 2007 Dairy Event, to be held on 19 and 20 September at Stoneleigh Park , Coventry. The decision comes following Defra's announcement that from Monday 3 September, subject to no further outbreaks, animals susceptible to Foot and Mouth Disease can be taken to shows involving animals, outside the Surveillance Zone. Dairy Event manager, Richard Evans comments: “Since the FMD outbreak in Surrey , RABDF has been closely monitoring the situation. After careful consideration and following painstaking deliberations with Defra and the State Veterinary Service, I can confirm that subject to no further outbreaks, livestock will be present at the Event. This applies to the cattle classes, exhibitions and demonstrations. “Obviously we will be implementing stringent biosecurity practises at the event. We have also written to all our livestock exhibitors explaining the current additional rules in place as a result of the FMD outbreak that may impact their ability to attend, so that they can all make an informed decision.” He adds; “We urge all visitors and exhibitors coming to the Dairy Event to behave in a responsible manner and take no undue risk. It is imperative that everyone arrives in clean vehicles, clothing and footwear and cooperates fully with the biosecurity measures in place.”
