RABDF has urged farmers to adopt stringent biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease (FMD). The Association has in particular encouraged farmers to protect each other by limiting contact with other livestock keepers and ensuring all vehicles, clothing and people entering their premises are cleansed and disinfected. RABDF chairman Lyndon Edwards commented: “We are encouraged at how swiftly movement restrictions have been put in place following the FMD outbreak. Whilst we recognise how businesses will be suffering from the detrimental affect of movement restrictions, I sincerely doubt there are many who would argue against the necessity to contain the outbreak. “RABDF are keen to ensure farmers take all precautions possible alongside the movement restrictions to help prevent further spread of the disease. We have to work as a team on this issue and all play our part. It is essential we all adopt on-farm biosecurity measures to protect the industry. RABDF has made sure that details of how to prevent the spread of the disease are available on our website www.rabdf.co.uk , as well as information on how to spot the disease.” |
