BGS, RABDF, MDC Early Grazing Days - How I make an extra 2p per litre

Examples of "How I make an extra 2p per litre"' will be discussed at a series of on farm "early grazing" days to be staged later this month by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF), the British Grassland Society (BGS) and the Milk Development Council ( MDC ).

Early season grassland management is the theme of the farm walks, however other topics including nutrition, herd health and genetics will also be up for discussion. Each event commences at 10.30am with an introduction from BGS, MDC will make a short technical presentation on its Grass+ Improvement Programme, and the host farmer will offer a background to the unit and lead a guided farm walk followed by lunch.

"If farmers believe their production costs are already pared to the bone, then this spring will offer them the opportunity to think again," says RABDF's Chief Executive, Nick Everington. "Grazed grass is the cheapest form of forage, and if producers optimise its management from turnout, they will be well placed to maximise its potential right throughout the season and reduce production costs by up to 2ppl. These farm walks are equally applicable to 10,000 litre herds, as well as those who have already opted for lower input systems."
