Myerscough College and University Centre

Myerscough College and University Centre has a long history in Agriculture and Land based education since its inception in 1896.

The College offers agricultural courses at both Further and Higher Education with specialist options available in livestock management. This education and training stretches across all levels from foundation learning to postgraduate research.

The main College site is located in Bilsborrow, just outside of Preston, and includes two farms totalling more than 300 hectares of farm and woodland. Our new Food and Farming Innovation and Technology Centre (FFIT Centre) is also located at Lodge Farm near our Preston Campus. Lodge Farm houses our 200 cow, all-year-round calving dairy herd, milked through a herringbone 20/40 parlour using AfiLab technology and managed using AfiFarm 5.2 software. The dairy cows are fed a partial mix ration through a Keenan diet feeder with high yielding cows topped up with concentrates from computerised walk-through Hanskampf Out Of Parlour Feeders. This dairy technology assists in teaching  our agriculture students dairy farm management skills. Milk is currently supplied to Mueller on a Co-op aligned contract.

Past students have gone on to employment as general farm workers or assistant farm managers, enterprise managers, agricultural advisers and herd managers. Many job opportunities also exist within the allied industries and students with BSc (Hons) Agriculture or BSc (Hons) Agricultural Livestock Science have progressed to work with feed companies, breeding companies, animal health specialists and finance specialists.

Myerscough College is also a centre for research and development in association with the food and farming industries as well as to develop the adoption of precision farming techniques particularly within the livestock and grassland sectors.

We offer a range of agriculture study programmes at Further Education (School Leaver) Level up to Level 3. Our FE Agriculture courses include dairy content relevant to the level of the course.
