Migrant workers are making a significant contribution to the dairy sector with one third of producers having employed foreign labour, according to an independent farmer analysis carried out by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers.

Members from both Houses of Parliament and across the political spectrum have formed a new Dairy All Party Parliamentary Group.

June has gone and it’s time to put pen to paper again.  I must start by congratulating Michael Eavis and his team at Worthy Farm for winning the 2014 RABDF Gold Cup Competition. 

Rebecca Hodgson, a BSc Agriculture student at Myerscough College and Susan Carr studying at the Royal Veterinary College have each received the RABDF Farm Health Management Award sponsored by Volac, an awareness raising initiative for younger members of the industry.

Michael Eavis from Glastonbury, Somerset is the winner of this year’s NMR/RABDF Gold Cup. This 230ha unit, that carries the 385-cow Holstein Friesian herd, is managed on a day-to-day basis by husband and wife team John and Pam Taylor with help from a team of four dairy staff. Regular meetings with Michael are used to monitor progress, set targets and develop new ideas.
