Dissertation Research - Silage Making

From Jake Nixon, BSc (Hons) Agricultural Management, Royal Agricultural University Jake.Nixon@student.rau.ac.uk

For my dissertation, I am conducting a study into the benefits of multicut grass silage over more traditional systems and whether the purported benefits are as apparent when the system is practiced on-farm. For ease of comparison, I am advertising the surveys to dairy producers who follow both the multicut and more traditional 3/4-cut systems.

For this, I have designed a couple of questionnaires; the first of which is a short, five-minute survey that seeks to build an overview of each farm to allow comparisons to be made between the farms that follow either system, and for those willing to participate further, the second questionnaire asks for more detailed data on silage analysis, costs and milk production.
